Faith-based group holds “pray-in” at RBC

Nine religious leaders from a Toronto faith-based action group, Faith and Climate Action, were
arrested at a “pray-in” at an RBC branch at Yonge and Gerard Streets, Toronto on April 9th.  Sr.
Mary-Ellen Francoeur, of Pax Christi Toronto, one of the 9 charged with trespassing and
disrupting operations at the branch, explained the purpose of the pray-in was to oppose RBC’s
action in financing a climate disaster.   The action was taken in advance of the RBC Annual
General Meeting scheduled for the following week. “We are calling on RBC shareholders to
think of future generations and to vote immediately to end funding for new fossil fuel projects
and wind down existing funding as soon as possible”.  RBC is the highest funder of fossil fuels in
Canada and 5th largest globally.
